Love can conquer all obstacles: Although there is a lot of social class conflict in Pride and Prejudice, it ultimately shows that love can overcome any obstacle. It is widely considered to be one of the most beloved works of literature, and has been adapted several times in multiple forms of media.ġ. Themes of love, marriage and family, class, gender, and social expectations all come into play in Pride and Prejudice. The novel itself, however, is much more complex than this simple summary. Similarly, Darcy’s pride of class and wealth, lead him to overlook Elizabeth’s humble station in life. Elizabeth’s pride, in the sense of pride of personal ability, ultimately leads her to overlook her own prejudices against Darcy. The title is derived from two of the main characters’s paths in life – Elizabeth Bennet and Fitzwilliam Darcy. The novel follows their lives, as the characters interact with each other and the people around them, and as the family members face personal growth and development. Mr Bennet, their father, is a wise and kind man, but not particularly wealth or powerful. At the beginning of the novel, the family’s five daughters – eldest Jane, and Lydia, Mary, Kitty, and Elizabeth – are approaching the marriageable age, but only have a limited amount of money to support them. It follows the story of the Bennet family, a middle-class English family living in a small provincial town.
